[News] [Rival] Fixing Vista: Where to Even Start?

Software Notebook: Microsoft's Ultimate Extras overhyped, users underwhelmed

,----[ Quote ]
| A Microsoft plan to reward some of its most enthusiastic Windows users has
| instead frustrated them by falling short of its promise. The company
| acknowledges the problem, says it ran into unexpected complications and vows
| to make things right.

The company now admits it. It took over a year for them to admit XBox360 is
inherently broken (and charge billions for it).

Microsoft has more burning issues than offering 'extras'. Vista's first SP is
ruining PCs, Home Server corrupts data, applications and incompatible
and "critical" patches keep coming to Vista.

| Stung by bad publicity over the lack of a whole swag of ‘Ultimate Extras’ for
| users of Windows Vista Ultimate, Microsoft has launched a beta version of
| the ‘UltimatePC.com’ site. Designed to extol the benefits of the existing
| Ultimate Extras and offer ‘Ultimate Exclusive’ offers to Vista Ultimate
| users, the site is little more than an ad, and for now, a waste of

The Death of Windows Vista Extras

,----[ Quote ]
| The bottom line is that the Ultimate Extras team has gone underground.
| Microsoft cannot expect Ultimate users to survive on a preview of Windows
| DreamScene with an outdated Content Pack and two Windows Vista wallpapers.
| For $399, Microsoft has to cough up palpable results.
|
| But so far, all is dead on the Ultimate Extras front. Even the blog went
| quiet after mid March, and I have a feeling that silence from the Ultimate
| Extras team is not what Ultimate users want to "hear."
