The model where you buy everyone off, like a drugs cartel or a mafia
organisation, is, in the end, surprisingly weak if you can manage to
turn the legal apparatus in the right direction, using something which
cannot be bought. As was said in the interview, you cannot buy free
software out, it's already there. It's no use bribing people, the code
itself is protected against such things. This is why, in the end, the
likes of Linspire, Novell and others will be ultimately unsuccessful in
trying to hold-up Microsoft's business model.
I remain surprised that Sun and Real could be bought off, though, since
it was clearly in their interests that the EC find against Microsoft.
