Why not go for shared hosting and use what they are most familiar with? RHEL
seems like a popular choice.

It seems like Ubuntu 6.06 which is Long Term Support is still the one to go
with. It's probably less buggy than its successors (before some trolls start
hopping, all O/Ses have some bugs, but in Ubuntu their effect is minor and
number is small compared to others).

It probably depends on what software one needs installed and which system
(including package manager) one is used to. I can't install software directly
on any of the Web servers I have, apart from localhost that serves very little
(now Ubuntu 7.04). Setting it up as a Web server just took one minute.
