True. When I said clone I was referring to the distribution and development
model. See some of the recent interviews with Murdock (and some other
analysis).

[H]omer begs to differ and I read some other reviews. To be honest, it's not
safe to just rely on someone else's assessment.

Sun denounced the whole DRM nonesense in Vista, so there's clearly something to
like. They also GPLed a couple of chips (revisions thereof, IIRC).

I saw what Phipps said to Sutor and it seems like Sun is unsure as to whether
GPLv3 will give them an advantage over Linux. Meanwhile, Morton and Torvalds
seem a little nervous about OpenSolaris. Linus talked about it in the mailing
list whereas Morton mentioned it in a recent (LinuxWorld?) talk.

Yes, but that's what people said when Novell acquired SuSE. It's hard to trust
a development force that is driven primarily (only?) by shareholders who give
a s**t about nothing but Benjamins. As the saying goes, money
corrupts. /Extreme/ capitalism kills, suppresses, and exploits.
