This is a fundamental difference between Open Source packages and modern
proprietary ones. Open Source packages are yet maintained with a stable
branch as well as a development branch, with bug fixes going into the
stable branch. This is an excellent situation for people who want
things to "just work", whereas the development branch allows those
people who want leading-edge to be able to get it, too.
