There are already adverts in the startup (login) screen. The whole PC becomes
a marketing digestion tool. The comparison is no longer costly versus free
and closed versus open. It's about /your/ PC or /their/ PC. Privacy versus
spyware. Ads versus "let me manage my own goddamn platform" [1].
Best wishes,

[1] Reminds me of a site I visited this morning. I thought Firefox would
ignore all the IE-targetted c**p -- that which led to a dark age of popups
and danagerous Web site. Alas, as I was opening a few dozen tabs, something
went amiss. A site took control of the browser and decided to have the whole
shebang extended to 'full screen' mode (dual). As the folks in the Web NG's
constantly say to idiotic, IE-centric developers, "don't bloddy try this.
It's My browser and my computer. Don't mess with the desktop environment".
This also applies to one's PC and Microsoft is yet to pay for this.
