Evil empire my left buttoch.
You don't have to look at or use google for long before you see the huge
difference between them and the others. Google go straight to the point,
they give a search engine that searches. It does bring up commercial
results too as they all do, but they are relevant to your search and not
shoved in your face, they are just a link that you can choose in the same
way as any other result. Advertisers are much more likely to get my
attention when dealt like that, I never click a flashy advert.
I have used many search engines and google is the only one that you can
guarentee that will bring up the sort of result you are looking for,
usually on the first page of results. It is clean and simple. Just a matter
of learning the best way to pose the question. That in itself is easy, just
think in terms of starting from awide search through to a narrower search,
thinking in the same way as if you were writing a complex search in SQL,
Example
uk "lunux club" leeds
They experimentation with online applications, such as the spreadsheet, I
thought was very well done. Again it went straight to the point, it's a
spreadsheet, doesn't need to have other nonsense cluttering the browser.
Maps does the same, its just maps and things that help you find the place
you are looking for.
I am not keen on the toolbar extensions, I mean other that just the search
text box, but that is just a matter of taste I suppose. The point of those
though is the need to more closly link the host and client for better
interaction. Maybe that is what they intentions for the google OS are.
