Give it a go, but explore as you go along. There is nothing more satisfying
than the experience with alternatives, which give you confidence in your
current choice. This applies to the scope of Linux distributions, as well as
O/Sen in general.

That's rather conventional nowadays... unlike another O/S, where icons and
Web/native interfaces are used to 'unlock' functionality, given a credit
card number.

You must be assigned to virtual terminal 1 (or other), which is not
X-enabled. Number 7 is the user's default virtual terminal, by convention. I
believe you just need to tweak some settings somewhere. The O/S is perhaps
assuming that you run a Web server or something as such.
