Not very likely, roy boy! They simply remain as Win98 machines.
Wrong. This machine started off life as a Win98 machine, then duel (sic)
booted Linux and now spends almost 100% of its time running Linx.
The box I have running Win98'll probably stay that way long after MS drops
support; heck, I've even got a box that can still run Win3.1 (if I ever
reboot it from its duel (sic) boot of FreeBSD into DOS).
They
have been working OK for 8 years, why bother to change anything. Nobody
has found any new problems worth fixing for years. They will run
Windows until the owner grows tired of the machine and tosses it in the
trash.
Or gives it away...I was given a Win98 machine (the HD had broke, so a quick
replacement and re-installation of Win98 & I've got a Win98 machine so that
I no longer have to duel boot this one anymore - if it had been XP would
that machine require re-activation and if MS has stopped support would that
re-activation be non-coming, ie I would be FORCED to downgrade (sic) to
their latest offering?
