Why is that surprising?
There are security fixes released for cooker builds of various Linux
distro's as well.

Nothing will stop software from having flaws. That's impossible. What
*IS* possible is to make the software not exploitable (or less exploitable)
when a flaw is found. The flaw still exists, and needs to be patched, but
is mitigated by configuration and/or other factors.
